“Strategies and Tools for Obtaining Funding for Public Good Projects”

A Special Finance-focused part of the East Maui Water Authority Community Conversation Series June 16-18

Panel Presentation and Audience Questions
Tuesday, June 17
11:00am to 12:15pm

The Public Finance Initiative (PFI) team will discuss the range of public finance strategies that can be leveraged to implement beneficial projects. Experts will respond to questions and concerns from attendees and provide ideas for long-term engagement.

Now, more than ever, it is essential to understand the resources that are available from all financial markets and better understand funding options outside of traditional federal government funding. Strategies for framing projects, including project need, values, and community buy-in will be shared to help applicants increase funding success. Different tools and financing products and markets will be discussed and compared.

Experts will:

  • Discuss financial tools, products, and markets available for public projects – including funding for natural assets, funding for nature based solutions, funding for infrastructure, and funding for related operating expenses and maintenance.
  • Explore public finance strategies for funding watershed, water infrastructure, climate resilience, food security through support of local agricultural producers, cultural projects designed to capture and perpetuate ‘ike kupuna and the importance of using place-based understanding and sustainable practices
  • Hear from audience members on their projects, perspectives and need for funding.
